A small ranked one, as he is still pretty young. When I told him that I know, he stupidly acted like I knew he had something like STD or so. He then wanted to tell me the boring story of how he actually ended up in a Masonic organization.

Kinja'd!!!

I was like "Bro', as long as you behave like a normal, not crazy, dude when I'm around, and you don't bore me to death with BS they tell you at the Lodge, you can be in The Royal Order of the Water Buffalo, as far as I'm concerned". It is also interesting that regular(Anglo American) Masonic organizations, have almost the same rules as Oppo(no politics and no questioning the supreme being i.e. no religious arguments), the no women allowed one doesn't apply on Oppo, but we are always on short supply of car girls, unfortunately.

Weirdly, the only basic requirement to be a Jalopnik writer is to be a member of the Masons. That and the Killuminati.

My grandfather is apparently the head member of a Masonic temple. There's a version that allows men and women, which is the Order of the Eastern Star . Although to join, you need to either be a Master Mason for men or have a direct familial relation to a Mason for women.

My dad is a mason. He's one of the head people at their lodge. I'm not really too sure what they do. From what I can tell it's just a bunch of old guys that sit around and talk about random stuff.

I'm a Mason. It's not that exciting.

Funny, I was thinking that you have to dragon 50 cars, in less than 15 minutes, to become a writer/editor/whatever, at Jalopnik.

I'd say a Swede Mason is pretty exciting.

Back where I grew up, they had a beautiful Lodge (I think that's what they call it).

That's the "Liberal" wing of Masonic organizations you are talking about, they don't care about your religious views, allow you to talk politics and accept women. They are popular in Europe and Latin America, but a small minority in the US and UK. Also, my cousin says that more and more Lodges today accept members easier than they did 100 years ago, get a recommendation from a high ranked mason, and the rest of the initiation process becomes pretty much a formality. I personally find all this organizations and activities, a big waste of time. It's like a boy scout patrol, for adults.

Maybe they're accepting more people because less want to join in the first place?

From what I heard, you need to believe in a higher being, no matter who or what that being is. Is that correct? So say, a guy believes in god, but the other guy believes in the flying spaghetti monster. Can the guy who belives in the flying spaghetti monster make it in?

As long as you believe in a higher being, yes.

His rank is too low to know Lodge secrets and stuff, but something tells me that the Grail(if it does exists), has just the value of a symbol, and if you melt it down, it's worth less than "Lil'" Jon's gold cup.

Some of the organizations do roll important amounts of cash, as members are usually pretty rich, and donate big for their little clubhouses.

Some of their robes look so silly, it's like whoever is designing them was half priest and half nerd who plays Dungeons & Dragons, 20 hours a day.

I need to join my local lodge this year. I'm the product of many generations of masons.

Pretty much, except for the Swedish Rite, they only except Christians, even so, many Anglo-American(conservative Masons) are Christians.
